A Wee Update (F U Leukemia!)

a wee update on what's going on in the journey of CML.  we chose our care team.  we are going with Humphrey Cancer Center and Dr. Harold Londer.  we chose this clinic because of Dr. Londer's experience, the warm & inviting atmosphere, as well as how wonderful the rest of the staff are.

Awww....isn't he precious?  :)

enter Torrie.  Torrie is our new best friend.  she is the financial counselor, and among other things, helps find ways for patients pay minimal to nothing for life-saving drugs.  we are currently in process with her.  she has submitted the Rx to my insurance company to find out A. what coverage will be for the drug and B. what speciality pharmacy i'm required to obtain said drug from.  this week we will find out what the OOP amount will be after insurance coverage.  frankly, we are preparing for the worst because the drug before insurance is $6K a month.  SIX THOUSAND FREAKING DOLLARS!!!!  if the OOP amount is affordable (by some miracle) - we will go ahead with filing the Rx and treatment will begin.  if the OOP amount is unaffordable - Torrie will start working her magic to find ways for it to get paid (via local foundations).  she told her us "don't worry - we WILL find a way for your medication to be affordable or free to you", so all i can do is trust her experience and trust Him that He will provide through this whole experience.

once we find the drug that is affordable for us - the Rx will be filled and i will start treatment after i meet with Dr. Londer (with said drug in hand).  Torrie noted today that he absolutely wants me to start treatment before the end of october.

that's it for now.  more to come.

ok so look...i am unbelievably grateful that i only have to take a pill.  ONE pill a day but F U DRUG COMPANIES! And while I'm at it, F U LEUKEMIA!  :)
